Daily Poem: Fragoletta ~ Algernon Charles Swinburne

Fragoletta
~ Algernon Charles Swinburne

LOVE! what shall be said of thee?
The son of grief begot by joy?
Being sightless, wilt thou see?
Being sexless, wilt thou be
Maiden or boy?

I dreamed of strange lips yesterday
And cheeks wherein the ambiguous blood
Was like a rose’s–yea,
A rose’s when it lay
Within the bud.

What fields have bred thee, or what groves
Concealed thee, O mysterious flower,
O double rose of Love’s,
With leaves that lure the doves
From bud to bower?

I dare not kiss it, lest my lip
Press harder than an indrawn breath,
And all the sweet life slip
Forth, and the sweet leaves drip,
Bloodlike, in death.

O sole desire of my delight!
O sole delight of my desire!
Mine eyelids and eyesight
Feed on thee day and night
Like lips of fire.

Lean back thy throat of carven pearl,
Lest thy mouth murmur like the dove’s;
Say, Venus hath no girl,
No front of female curl,
Among her Loves.

Thy sweet low bosom, thy close hair,
Thy straight soft flanks and slenderer feet,
Thy virginal strange air,
Are these not over fair
For Love to greet?

How should he greet thee? what new name,
Fit to move all men’s hearts, could move
Thee, deaf to love or shame,
Love’s sister, by the same
Mother as Love?

Ah sweet, the maiden’s mouth is cold,
Her breast-blossoms are simply red,
Her hair mere brown or gold,
Fold over simple fold
Binding her head.

Thy mouth is made of fire and wine,
They barren bosom takes my kiss
And turns my soul to thine
And turns thy lip to mine,
And mine it is.

Thou hast a serpent in thine hair,
In all the curls that close and cling;
And ah, thy breast-flower!
Ah love, thy mouth too fair
To kiss and sting!

Cleave to me, love me, kiss mine eyes,
Satiate thy lips with loving me;
Nay, for thou shalt not rise;
Lie still as Love that dies
For love of thee.

Mine arms are close about thine head,
My lips are fervent on thy face,
And where my kiss hath fed
Thy flower-like blood leaps red
To the kissed place.

O bitterness of things too sweet
O broken singing of the dove!
Love’s wings are over fleet,
And like the panther’s feet
The feet of Love.

Daily Poem: The Port ~ Charles Baudelaire

The Port
~ Charles Baudelaire, Translated from French by Michael Hamburger

A port is a delightful place of rest for a soul weary of life’s battles. The vastness of the sky, the mobile architecture of the clouds, the changing coloration of the sea, the twinkling of the lights, are a prism marvelously fit to amuse the eyes without ever tiring them. The slender shapes of the ships with their complicated rigging, to which the surge lends harmonious oscillations, serve to sustain within the soul the taste for rhythm and beauty. Also, and above all, for the man who no longer possesses either curiosity or ambition, there is a kind of mysterious and aristocratic pleasure in contemplating, while lying on the belvedere or resting his elbows on the jetty-head, all these movements of men who are leaving and men who are returning, of those who still have the strength to will, the desire to travel or to enrich themselves.

Bindrune to Burn It All to the Ground

Bindrune to Burn It All to the Ground: Ziu, Cweorth, Sowelu

Bindrune to Burn It All to the Ground: Ziu, Cweorth, Sowelu

If you are new to working with bindrunes, I suggest you read the introductory bindrune post here, then return to this post to read about this specific bindrune.

This is an intense and unpredictable rune. It is most definitely NOT a rune for someone new to magic and/or bindrunes.

If you are looking for a bindrune to help with change in a manageable way, I suggest the Bindrune for Gradual Change or the Bindrune for Navigating Change with Grace. Either of them will help you navigate your way to a new path in a less traumatic manner. Additionally, the Bindrune for Resources to Manage Change from last week will help you create the circumstances and physical needs to create needed change.

However, there may come a point where it really doesn’t matter. Where you truly do not have time or ability to dig your way out of this mess—or where it’s not safe to do so. Where you just need to burn it to the ground and walk away.

While doing that on the physical plane is a bad idea (arson is a serious crime), you can do it on an energetic level. If you are stuck in a situation that has just gone on too damn long, and if there is truly no gracious way out, then this bindrune can accomplish that goal. I suggest this only for  the most extreme situation—an abusive relationship, or one in which you are being held captive in some way that requires sheer force to break free.

Ziu (gold, left tile): This is the strike of divine lightning of judgment that starts the fire. (Think of the Tower card in traditional Tarot decks.) Using this rune brings in the energies of Tyr, so make sure you are in the right in the situation. Tyr is all about justice, and you cannot invoke Him to ask for injustice without suffering yourself (and having your request denied in a most vehement manner).

Cweorth (red, center tile): This rune represents the human fire created by the fire-twirl, a hand tool used to start a fire using friction. Cweorth is the fire of the funeral pyre, burning all traces of the life that had been, and scattering it as ashes to the wind. There is no reclaiming anything consigned to Cweorth; it is gone completely and forever.

Sowelu (gold, right tile): The natural light of the Sun, rounding out the types of fire energy. The sun turns fields to deserts, streams to dry flats, and living things to bleached bones, stripping them to their bare essence before they, too, turn to dust.

Be careful with this bindrune and this magic. You are breaking bonds, which has serious psychological, emotional, spiritual, and karmic effects. If you are thinking to use this bindrune and its magic to break an oath merely for convenience, I suggest you think again.

Again, this bindrune is only for the most extreme situation—an abusive relationship, or one in which you are being held captive in some way that requires sheer force to break free. If it’s not life-or-death serious on some level, don’t use this bindrune. This is dynamiting your way out, and using it merely to loosen a humidity-swollen door is an utterly inappropriate use of its power.

The bindrune on the left was done in colored pencil. The one on the right was done with fine point calligraphy markers. They are shown in two different media to give an idea of how the same bindrune looks different depending on how it is created.

You could put a drop of cinnamon oil for to reinforce the fiery energy, or a drop of your favorite oil on it to reinforce the energy with your personal scent. You can also use a magical oil, such as a hoodoo oil like Block Buster or Van Van, or other type of specially prepared oil.

If there is no other way out, then this bindrune can get you out—but be prepared for a wild, unpredictable ride.

Use this bindrune—and all bindrunes—entirely at your own risk.

Response (For Eileen)
~ Bob Kaufman

Sleep little one, sleep for me
The deep sleep of love.
You are loved, awake or dreaming.
You are loved.

Dancing winds will sing for you,
Ancient gods will pray for you,
A poor lost poet will love you,
As stars appear
In the dark
Skies.
