Text-to-Speech Options

If you are looking for a free text-to-speech app to use on my blog, an app called Read Aloud has been recommended to me by a colleague. You can find it at:

It is available as an extension for Firefox, Chrome, and Edge.

I have been informed that it does the job well, although pronunciation of non-English words varies in accuracy, and it sometimes hiccups when reading tables. The privacy settings are reasonable.

I haven’t yet found a free extension for Safari, other than the Mac’s built-in reader.

From the Mac App Store, Voice Dream Reader Desktop (7 day free trial; $9.99/month or $49.99/year) has good ratings and a decent privacy policy:
