The Unequal Fetters
~ Anne Finch, Countess of Winchilsea
Cou’d we stop the time that’s flying
Or recall it when ’tis past
Put far off the day of Dying
Or make Youth for ever last
To Love wou’d then be worth our cost.
But since we must loose those Graces
Which at first your hearts have wonne
And you seek for in new Faces
When our Spring of Life is done
It wou’d but urdge our ruine on
Free as Nature’s first intention
Was to make us, I’ll be found
Nor by subtle Man’s invention
Yeild to be in Fetters bound
By one that walks a freer round.
Mariage does but slightly tye Men
Whil’st close Pris’ners we remain
They the larger Slaves of Hymen
Still are begging Love again
At the full length of all their chain.

The Giants’ Tarot, Raven Kaldera
Draw for January 17, 2017
Active Influence: Hronn/Five of Cups
Rune: Mannaz/Self
Hidden Influence: Beli/Knight of Swords
Well, things are not a whole lot better, but at least Mannaz (the Self) is right side up today. As you adjust to your new situation, you will experience alternating currents of fear and anger. However awful these feelings are, they are part of the process. Again, remember that today will draw to a close, and tomorrow will be better, if for no other reason than that you will be one day further along in your healing process.
Getting drawn into endless arguments doesn’t change the situation, and doesn’t do anyone any good. Focus on what you need to do for you, and let others deal with their stuff.

Buying
~ Jean Follain
Translated from French by Heather McHugh
She was buying an elixir
in a city
of bygone times
yet we should think of her
now when shoulders are as white
and wrists as fine
flesh as sweet
Oh, vertiginous life!

The Giants’ Tarot, Raven Kaldera
Draw for January 16, 2017
Active Influence: Thjassi/Three of Swords
Rune: Mannaz/Self (reversed)
Hidden Influence: Hreidmar & Ottar/Five of Coins
Pain and disappointment have you feeling disconnected from yourself. Even if the changes you are experiencing will be positive in the long run, that doesn’t change how much things hurt today. Accept today’s pain as part of the process, and take comfort where it is available. If nothing else, remember that this, too, shall pass.
