The Giants’ Tarot, Raven Kaldera

Draw for March 8, 2017
Active Influence: Skadi/Justice
Rune: Teiwaz/Honor
Hidden Influence: Farbauti/The Tower

Farbauti, the Cruel Striker, fires his flaming arrow into the forest, and all is turned to ashes. Justice manifests in surprising ways, and at unexpected times. Karmic debts must be repaid, and if you have been running wild in the Mall of Bad Behavior, the Credit Card Bill of Your Soul has come due.

If you have been fighting an uphill battle, dealing with unfair odds or an oversized opponent, today could bring some relief. The truth of someone’s behavior (lies, deception, theft, etc.) becomes known to all, and consequences ensue—and perhaps through the simple (and courageous) act of your speaking the truth.

If you have a flaming arrow, today is a good day to use it.

The Giants’ Tarot, Raven Kaldera

Draw for March 7, 2017
Active Influence: Nine Maidens of the Mill/Nine of Coins
Rune: Wunjo/Joy (reversed)
Hidden Influence: Fenja & Menja/Two of Coins

Work, work, work. Today is ALL about the work—for starters, both cards are in the suit of Coins. Fenja and Menja appear in their own card, signifying hard work to reach a goal. They are also two of the Nine Maidens of the Mill, who are responsible for creating iron, salt, and sand, among other things necessary to keep the world spinning. So, yes, work, work, work. Focus, focus, focus.

Wunjo reversed indicates the seriousness of what you are doing today. It doesn’t mean you can’t take joy in your work, or take pride your accomplishments, or that you can’t reward yourself for your efforts. It emphasizes the message of the cards, stated so eloquently by Peter Ustinov, “It is our responsibilities, not ourselves, that we must take seriously.”

Get your priorities straight, and get to work.

Advice to a Neighbour Girl
~ Yu Hsuan-Chi
Translated from Chinese by Kenneth Rexroth and Chung Ling

Afraid of the sunlight,
You cover your face with your silk sleeves.
Tired out with Spring melancholy,
You neglect your makeup.
It is easier to get priceless jewels
Than to find a man with a true heart.
Why wet your pillow with secret tears?
Why hide your heartbreak in the flowers?
Go, seek a handsome famous man like Sung Yu.
Don’t long for someone who will never come back.

The Giants’ Tarot, Raven Kaldera

Draw for March 6, 2017
Active Influence: Billing/King of Coins
Rune: Sowelu/Sun
Hidden Influence: Ymir/Fool

Today, the sun shines brightly (figuratively, at least), allowing you to identify new possibilities. You clearly see your resources (which are likely more numerous and flexible than you previously imagined) and find new ways to turn them to positive use, as well as opportunities you may have overlooked before.

While all the shiny new energy is exciting, you need to keep your feet on the ground, think clearly, and take appropriate action. Daydreams can show you where you want to go, but you need to do the work to get there.

When working on the daily draws, sometimes it takes a few edits to get the message just right. Below are some sentences inspired by the cards and runes which did not make it into the final post.

*Stay home, eat ice cream in your pajamas, and watch old movies. The stupidity awaiting you today will still be there tomorrow.

*Today is a good day to call in dead, and find a new job.

*OhMyGodWeAreAllGoingToDIE! But maybe not.

*That coworker you suspect of lying to you? They are totally lying to you. Time for them to meet the underside of a (figurative) bus.

*You are surrounded by idiots. Run away, and don’t look back.

*That plan you’ve been working on falls apart in a truly spectacular way today. Time to leave the country under an assumed name.

*The card and the rune have completely opposite meanings. So it doesn’t matter what you do, it’s going to be the wrong thing.
