a child blurting it out as the seizures take her,
a woman reciting it on a cot in a hospital.
What if you take a cab through the Tenderloin:
at a street light, a man in a wool cap,
yarn unraveling across his face, knocks at the window;
he says, Please.
By the time you hear what he’s saying,
the light changes, the cab pulls away,
and you don’t go back, though you know
someone just prayed to you the way you pray.
Please: a word so short
it could get lost in the air
as it floats up to God like the feather it is,
knocking and knocking, and finally
falling back to earth as rain,
as pellets of ice, soaking a black branch,
collecting in drains, leaching into the ground,
and you walk in that weather every day.

Time to re-evaluate your relationship with money and material things. Money is not inherently evil; it is a tool which can be used in any number of ways. Like any other tool, the effect depends on how you use it. That choice is yours to make; trust your soul to lead you in the right direction. Let go of the thoughts and behaviors which keep you stuck in a pattern of financial difficulty, and commit to a healthy way of managing your resources that fulfills your material needs and is emotionally sustainable as well. While this may require other changes in the longer term (new employment, perhaps), the first step is to acknowledge what is good in your life, and offer thanks to all who have provided for you (and that includes yourself as well!).

Count your blessings, and allow yourself to enjoy your material comforts.
