Call for Submissions for Elemental Fractions

February 7, 2023 | Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off on Call for Submissions for Elemental Fractions

From today’s newsletter emails:

“The Magickal Women Conference is creating a series of four anthologies featuring stories connected to the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, be they found in the world around us, or forged from the elements themselves. These fractions of creativity aim to encourage and inspire magical thinking about the world around us.

“In the first of this series, we invite people to explore the element of Earth. Whether you write magical realism, folk horror, fantasy, or science fiction, we would love to read your submissions. What stories can be heard whispered between standing stones, what tales are undulating beneath our feet? We seek mycelial maps and crystalline realms, the stories that can be found in the hedgerows, ripe for the picking, and the magic that can be made with them. We invite you to contribute your fraction of Earth.”

Guidelines for submission are here. Submissions close June 30, 2023, or until the anthology is full, whichever comes first.

Rachel Pollack Update (Not the Best News)

January 13, 2023 | Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off on Rachel Pollack Update (Not the Best News)

Our beloved Rachel Pollack has been recovering at home, and doing alright, until this week. This is the most recent update from her wife, Zoe:

Rachel's surgery was unsuccessful. There was blockage that could not be pierced. We can continue to heal even with that news. But also, the PT scan showed that the cancer has returned. We will be seeing the oncologist tomorrow (Friday, the 13th) to discuss how to proceed. It is not clear if there will be a treatment option. So, once again, we need you. Pelase continue the healing work you have been doing for Rachel. She remains hopeful that there will be a cure. I also need your support to meet the challenges of whatever is required of me. I want to meet those challenges with Love and Light. It's been such a long, difficult road, but one filled with such gratitude for all the time that Rachel and I have had togther, even in the worst circumstances. We remain convinced that it is Rachel's indomitable spirit and will to live, along with your healing works (including donations at gofundme.com), that have enabled us to come this far. The miracles are happening!

So, please light candles, speak to Whoever is listening, and, if you can, donate to the GoFundMe for Rachel’s medical care and the household’s living expenses.

Equinox and Equilux

September 21, 2022 | Filed Under Things I Think About | Comments Off on Equinox and Equilux

Thanks to this post at TimeAndDate.com, I learned today about the Equilux*!

Despite common belief, day and night are not equal on the Equinox. The Equinox is when the sun crosses the the celestial equator, so it rises due east and sets due west.

A drawing of the earth half in darkness and half in light. The words "Equilux (Not Equinox)" are superimposed on the image.

Day and night are equal lengths on the Equilux, which is either a few days before or after the Equinox.

The post above also has a link to help you find the Equilux in your location.

And now you have two days to celebrate!

*Not to be confused with Equilux Horse Cleaner Spray.
A green bottle with a white spray nozzle and red tip. The label shows a silhouette of person riding a horse which is jumping, and the Equilux brand information.
